ACHA's Hospitals

Ashford Community Hospital, now known as Ashford Hospital was opened in 1950. It was originally a joint collaboration between Unley, Mitcham, West Torrens and Marion Councils, together with a group of doctors from the western suburbs.

Prior to this the site housed a small private hospital, which from 1935 was run by two nursing sisters and was later known as Ashford Private Hospital. This hospital was subsequently sold in 1950 to become the Ashford Community Hospital.

In 1995, Ashford Hospital was the first private hospital in the State to open an emergency department which now attends to over 10,000 patients each year. Ashford Hospital was also the first private hospital in South Australia to perform Cardiac Surgery.
