You may have seen that a parent company of Healthscope was recently placed into receivership and voluntary administration.
While the information regarding Healthscope has generated media interest, it is important to note that ACHA is independent of Healthscope, and our hospitals continue to operate as usual.
Who is ACHA?
Adelaide Community Healthcare Alliance Incorporated (ACHA) is a proudly South Australian not-for-profit charity who owns Ashford Hospital, Flinders Private Hospital and The Memorial Hospital.
ACHA is an Association incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act 1985 and is governed by a Board of six Directors elected and appointed by its members in accordance with its Constitution. The members of ACHA are members of the South Australian public who have an interest in the purpose and objectives of ACHA.
ACHA employs 100% of its staff; over 2,500 across Adelaide.
It is also important to know that ACHA’s cash flow together with its external financing arrangements are completely independent of Healthscope. We reinforce that ACHA’s financial position is and continues to be sound.
What is your relationship with Healthscope?
ACHA is completely independent of Healthscope. The relationship between ACHA and Healthscope is purely contractual.
ACHA has a contractual agreement with Healthscope that sees ACHA retain responsibility for strategic direction and governance. Under this agreement, Healthscope manages the hospital operations as agent for ACHA and provides a number of services in this capacity. Importantly, there is no change to these services which will continue while Healthscope goes through its process.
What does this all mean?
ACHA will continue to operate as normal.
Our three hospitals continue to be hospitals of choice for patients, staff and Visiting Medical Officers alike.
Please be assured there is no impact on patients or any patient surgeries or admissions. Patients can continue to be admitted and treated and will receive the high-quality care we are known for. We look forward to welcoming you.
For our staff, there is no threat to employment or entitlements. We continue, as the business requires, staff recruitment, graduate nursing programs, student placements etc.
There is no impact to our suppliers. Payments to ACHA’s suppliers will continue to be made in accordance with agreed terms and normal payment cycles.
